# San Candido / Innichen

San Candido / Innichen is located in an idyllic setting, 1174 metres above sea level, nestled at the foot of the Dolomites. Once in San Candido, the presence of the imposing bell tower of the Collegiate Church of Ss. Candido e Corbiniano, as well as the surprising number of ‘minor’ churches and voluminous military structures and barracks, some in disuse and others still in use. There is also a military monument from the Fascist era that looks like a Roman fortress: it is on the way to Prato alla Drava, towards the Austrian border, which is just a stone's throw away. These buildings are closely linked to the key position in which San Candido is located, in a historical border area and at the crossroads of two important roads, the Val Pusteria and Valle di Sesto, which cross the Monte Croce di Comelico pass and lead to the Veneto.
