# Samoëns

If you want to spend your skiing holiday in one of the largest skiing areas in the French Alps, in an authentic mountain village, you should come to Samoëns, which has preserved the typical regional atmosphere and is, not without reason, the only ski area designated as a world heritage site with many impressive historic buildings. To protect this cultural heritage, care for the environment and non-aggressive tourism are the main focuses of Samoëns. The small ski village is characterised by its old houses made of huge natural stones, which are a sign of the ancient tradition of stonemasonry in Samoëns. In spite of this, intensive investment has been made in recent years to make Samoëns an attractive location for winter sports, with a direct connection to the luxury ski area of Le Grand Massif. Skiers who choose Samoëns as the starting point for their stay in Le Grand Massif have four different ski areas or an XXL ski area at their disposal. Samoëns itself, at an altitude of 1,600 metres, has a clear range of easy to medium slopes. Right next to the mountain station of the gondola is a beginners' practice area, which leads directly to the expert area. Two chairlifts take you up from Samoëns to Tete des Saix at an altitude of 2125 metres, and back to Samoëns at 1600 metres with easy to medium descents or directly to the centre of Samoëns-Vercland at 900 metres above sea level. The real specialists can choose the unprepared black piste ‘Aigle Noir’, to return to the resort.
