# Colonia Suiza

Colonia Suiza is a town in the municipality of San Carlos de Bariloche, in the Bariloche Department, Río Negro, Argentina. It is located about 25 km west of the city of San Carlos de Bariloche at the foot of Cerro López. Towards the end of the 19th century, the area was populated by immigrants from the Canton of Valais, in the south of Switzerland, thus being the first Swiss settlement in Patagonia. The Goye, Mermoud, Cretton, Felley, Jackard, Fotthoff, Lojda and Neu were the first families. It has places to spend the night and restaurants that offer services to the tourists that visit the region. One of the most important activities that attracts both national and international tourists is hiking, since there begins a trail through which you can reach places like Cerro Goye, Laguna Negra and the hills Bailey Willis and Lopez.
