# Lake Tahoe

The winter months welcome walks in the alpine foothills, and in the summer months you can hike in the morning and take a refreshing dip at the beach in the afternoon. Here are some of the best options for outdoor adventures at Lake Tahoe - from laid-back alternatives to thrilling and various points in between.
The Sierra Nevada Mountains, which surround Lake Tahoe, is one of the most popular ski destinations in the United States. Go skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing or tubing at one of Lake Tahoe's ski resorts, including Heavenly, Kirkwood and Sierra at Tahoe.
Hop on the Scenic Gondola at Heavenly Mountain Resort for spectacular views of Lake Tahoe. At the top, stop for lunch at the Tamarack Lodge and Bar, before taking the Tamarack Express to the next level for photo-worthy views and hiking trails.
At Emerald Bay State Park, hike down the short, steep Vikingsholm Trail to Vikingsholm Castle, which was inspired by Scandinavian structures. For a more challenging hike, try the Mt. Tallac Trailhead and enjoy views of Lake Tahoe and the Desolation Wilderness. Families with children can enjoy an easy hike from Eagle Falls on the Eagle Lake Trail or the Rubicon Trail, a lakeside trail through alpine forests.
