# Castelrotto

Castelrotto is a small town in South Tyrol. It lies at the foot of the Alpe di Siusi, Europe's largest plateau.
Piazza Kraus is one of the most striking places in town. Look up and see the bell tower towering over the square: at 82 metres high, it is the third tallest bell tower in the province of Bolzano. On a clear day, from the square you can see the Sciliar massif and the Santner peak. Another way to enjoy the breathtaking view is to reach the top of Mount Calvary, following a path that runs along a Way of the Cross. 
Not far from Piazza Kraus is the Museum of Traditional Costumes, which exhibits traditional South Tyrolean costumes used at festivals and popular celebrations. The surroundings of Castelrotto offer numerous activities. In the Natural Park of Sciliar-Catinaccio it is possible to go hiking, surrounded by breathtaking views and places of interest, such as the Geologists' Path. Also in the area, ancient remains of castles and fortresses offer panoramic views from high places. Among them, the ruins of Castelvecchio, in the Sciliar massif.
