# Pic du Midi

Experts say that the best times of the year to visit the Pic du Midi are October, because of the deep blue sky, which is unique throughout the year, just before the first snow, or in January, when all the peaks are covered in white. 
April and May are also a good time to see a more colourful landscape, and to see the mountains with snow on the peaks.
 La Mongie is the base for the cable car, which takes you from 1,800 metres to the observatory at 2,877 metres in just 15 minutes. A route full of sensational views both of the imposing mountain of the Pic du Midi and of the Pyrenees, a foretaste of what we are going to see at the top. The Pic du Midi is a very special peak, being at a high altitude but set apart from the massif that makes up the Pyrenees. That is why it is such a good place for meteorological and astronomical observation, as well as for the curious who want to see this protected natural site.
As you leave the main building and marvel at the majestic views from the esplanade. To the south, 300 kilometres of imposing Pyrenees mountains, from the Aneto peak to the Midi d'Ossau, from the Gap of Roland to the Marboré. The most important part of the Pyrenees is in front of our eyes. To the north, the footbridge over the sky allows us to see the flat part of the Occitania region, with its green meadows and picturesque villages.
