# Rancagua

Rancagua is a central city in Chile, south of Santiago. The Plaza de los Héroes commemorates the Chileans who fought in the Battle of Rancagua, during the War of Independence. It also houses the Rancagua Cathedral, with its twin towers. National hero General Bernardo O'Higgins led the troops during the battle from the nearby Church of La Merced. In a colonial building is the Rancagua Regional Museum, which explores the history of the area.
