# Sölden

Sölden is located in the Ötz Valley (Ötztal) in the Tyrol at 1,368 metres above sea level. This small Austrian town of just over 3,000 inhabitants is Austria's top ski destination and one of the most visited ski resorts in the world. Its tourist development has made it lose some of the charm of other Alpine resorts, but at the same time it has created a paradise for skiing and après-ski enthusiasts.

The ski area is formidable, with a season that starts in October, and since 1993 Sölden has hosted the first round of the Alpine Ski World Cup on the Rettenbach glacier, and continues until May.
Sölden has 146 kilometres of pistes and 33 ski lifts, which provide access to the slopes without waiting. The undisputed architectural and technological superstars of the ski lifts are the Giggijoch (10-person cabins) and the Gaislachkogl (8-person cabins). Located at both ends of the village of Sölden, they are the two access routes to the ski area.

Sölden has a modern artificial snowmaking system covering 80 % of the ski area to guarantee the entire ski slope, from 1350 metres at the base of the resort to 3340 metres at its highest point.
There is an abundance of 33 ski huts for refreshment stops, offering many other highlights such as 007 ELEMENTS - James Bond Adventure World or BIG3 Rally so that every single ski day is an adventure in Sölden.
