# Mammoth Lakes

Mammoth Lakes is the perfect central base for exploring all that makes California's mountains extraordinary. Connect with family and friends on a hike to Rainbow Falls or explore Devil's Postpile National Monument. Yosemite National Park is just a short drive away, making it ideal for a day trip. Other incredible places worth a visit include Mono Lake, the Hot Creek Geological Site or Bodie, California's official ‘ghost town’, where the old west still survives.
Mammoth Lakes is home to the world-famous Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, one of the official training mountains of the U.S. Olympic Team. Access California's highest altitude resort at over 3,300 metres with 28 chair lifts and two cable cars. Mammoth Mountain's large size accommodates 150 runs, with terrain levels ranging from beginner to expert. There are also five enclosures offering succulent meals to replenish your strength, as well as craft beers and cocktails to restore your courage.
Famous for hiking, fishing and horseback riding, Mammoth Lakes is also home to America's top-rated mountain biking park by Outside magazine. Load your bike on the cable car ride up and enjoy the views on the way down. The Mammoth Lakes Basin is full of places to take a nice hike, catch a big trout to brag about or take a leisurely bike ride with your family on paved roads. Find a natural hot springs pool just for you and relax in it, or have a great time at one of Mammoth Lakes' famous festivals or events.
