# Girdwood

Girdwood is considered Alaska's only true resort town. Just 45 minutes south of Anchorage, Girdwood is home to the luxurious Alyeska Resort, fun and entertaining festivals, and countless options for year-round outdoor adventures in a beautiful mountain setting.
For a thrilling winter experience, tour the mountain terrain on a snowmobile. Go out with a tour operator for a safe and enjoyable excursion. Top off-road destinations include Girdwood, the Kenai Peninsula and Denali. If you're looking for another way to get out in the snow, you can pack up and take a ride with dog sledding operators across the state. Dog sledding is a historic, efficient and fun way to tour Alaska.
Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are available on virtually all snow-covered public lands. Tour operators throughout the state offer small-group trips with local information. If you prefer to exercise in town, rent a wide-wheeled bike from independent shops in Anchorage, Talkeetna or Fairbanks. You can pedal with a crowd or ride easy trails on your own.
