# Ushuaia

The city of Ushuaia is located on the bay of the same name, surrounded to the west, north and east by the Fuegian Andes.  To reach Ushuaia, two major foothills of the Fuegian Andes must be crossed by means of National Route 3, crossing the Alvear mountain range through the Garibaldi mountain pass, and the Sorondo-Montes Bridges mountain range through the Olivia river valley. For this reason, in Argentina it is considered the only trans-Andean city, although it is not necessary to cross the entire Andean chain to reach it. Outside the city there are a number of important lakes and lagoons, all of glacial origin. The most important lake in Tierra del Fuego is Lake Fagnano. It is located 30 km in a straight line to the north of Ushuaia, but to appreciate it it is necessary to travel about 90 km from Ushuaia along National Route No. 3.
