# Catamarca

Catamarca is a province in northwestern Argentina, bordering Chile. Its stunning landscapes include cactus-adorned sierras in the east and inhospitable Andean highlands in the northwest. Iconic Route 40 ascends to the towns of Belén and Londres, known for hand-woven ponchos and the nearby Inca ruins of El Shincal. The Cathedral Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Valle has a neoclassical style and attracts pilgrims to Catamarca, the provincial capital. The Puna: which occupies the northern portion of the province with high mountain ranges such as Calalaste, large salt flats and imposing volcanoes such as Antofalla.
The central mountain range: occupies the southwestern part of the province. It has high peaks such as Ojos del Salado (6893 m above sea level), Mount Pissis (6795 m above sea level), and Tres Cruces (6749 m above sea level) among several other giants known as "seis miles" (six thousands).
